In 1961, Shanghai Book Company Limited 上海書局出版社 in Singapore published a small booklet titled Pĕlajaran Ejaan Jawi. The book was authored by Lai Qunjin 賴羣進 and it was one of the 陳蒙鶴|賴羣進|吳高德|曾松華《華馬大辭典》、林煥文《簡明馬華辭典》、林煥文《馬來語課程》、楊貴誼的《名人演講錄》、傅超賢的《新聞選譯》 many Malay culture books written in the Chinese language in the period between 1950 to 1960s. The book was largely forgotten and left alone in most libraries, collecting dust. Recently the book resurfaced in a rather unusual way. The book was featured in the Chinese shaman scene in The Story of Southern Isle 南巫, a film directed by Chong Keat Aun won the Golden Horse Award for Best New Director in 2020 with this film. The syair titled “ The syair was romanized by Muhammad Haji Salleh in 1994. See M. H. Salleh (1994) Syair Tantangan Singapura Abad Kesembilan Belas, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Kuala Lumpur. Syair Tĕnku Pĕrabu di nĕgĕri Singapura " can be found in Mal.-pol. 91 and Mal.-pol. 96, they are a part of the 287 Malay manuscripts stored in Bibliotheque Nationale of Paris.
