Parkinson's Law

This is the famous “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion” article, first appeared in The Economist (19 November 1955, pp. 635 - 637 ). Cyril Northcote Parkinson (30 July 1909 - 9 March 1993) was the Raffles Professor of History at the University of Malaya, Singapore when he wrote this article. Motivated partially by a pay raise from £400 to £1,000, Parkinson was recruited from University of Liverpool to fill this new professorship when University of Malaya was founded in 1949. He occupied this position between 1950 to 1958. On July 1959, Parkinson's chair was passed to an Australian named Kennedy Gordon Tregonning (13 June 1923 - 20 July 2015) and much later, to a Penangite named Wong Lin Ken (d? m? 1931 - 16 February 1983), who was the second (1959 - 1966) and the last Raffles Professor (1966 - 1983) of History in the same campus.
